Brighton Mufudza (19) of Tsinhai village allegedly fatally crushed Godfrey Torongo with a stone after the latter tried to intercept him on April 4.

The State alleges that on the fateful day, Mufudza escaped and outpaced his uncles and fled for about 8km towards Binga.

Along the way, he allegedly met Torongo and narrated his case before the latter tried to effect a citizen’s arrest.

The accused picked up a stone and hit Torongo’s forehead and further crushed him with the same stone until he died.

The accused’s uncles later arrived at the scene, arrested and handed him to Marapira Police Station, where he was charged under Manoti CR06/04/18.

The State alleges that the accused was found in possession of the deceased’s shoes.

Police also allegedly recovered the stone used in committing the offence at the crime scene.

Mufudza was remanded in custody to April 19, pending his indictment to the High Court for trial.
