The victim, Onias Mugamuri (47) of Plot 7, Delpot Wish Farm, Chivhu was rushed to Chivhu General Hospital after he was shot on the right side of the chest.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday confirmed the incident and said it was accidental.

“I confirm the shooting incident, but it was accidental, not intentional,” she said.

NewsDay is reliably informed that on April 16, Musarurwa (47) and the complainant visited their uncle’s homestead together.

As they were about to leave, they saw some monkeys approaching the maize field before Musarurwa fired a shot in the air to scare away the animals, injuring Mugamuri in the process.

Mugamuri was then rushed to Chivhu General Hospital, where he was admitted.

The matter was reported at ZRP Chivhu and one Detective Assistant Inspector Nyamadzawo attended the scene.

According to medical records, Mugamuri suffered a gunshot wound on the right side of the chest and on the shoulder blade.
