Blessing Chanyuka (18) was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Tilda Mazhande, who remanded him in custody to April 4, pending finalisation of investigations.

It is the State case that on March 5, the now-deceased Joseph Mukwashi was at Munyuki shops in Epworth when he had a misunderstanding with Chanyuka and his two accomplices after they demanded repayment of the debt.

The State alleges Chanyuka and his accomplices assaulted Mukwashi with open hands, fists and an unknown metal object all over his body.

It is alleged an informant heard noise outside Mukwashi’s residence and went outside to investigate and found lying on the ground, facing downs at his door step.

Police later attended the scene and took Mukwashi to Harare Central Hospital, where he died on March 8.

A post-mortem report revealed that Mukwashi died of septicaemia and blunt abstract trauma.

Chanyuka was arrested on Monday inside Harare Central Hospital premises.

Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
