In a speech read on his behalf by Potraz director of corporate services, Avilla Goba, the authority’s director-general, Gift Machengete, said his organisation was committed to assisting the underprivileged in society.

“As Potraz, we have come to support the reverend [Lazarus] Muyambi [founder of St Agnes Children’s home] and those whom he works with to help look after orphans at this home,” Machengete said.

Potraz donated mealie-meal, cooking oil, soap and vegetables among other items.

Machengete said each year, Potraz put aside a budget to help the disadvantaged as part of the authority’s corporate social responsibility programme.

He said it was his hope that children at St Agnes would be successful in life to become future leaders.

Muyambi said the donated goods would enable the institution to divert funds meant for food for other activities.

He said the orphanage produced professionals, some of whom are now based in the United Kingdom.

St Agnes takes care of orphans by providing important services such as a learning centre, accommodation and a hospital for the community.
