Prizes ranging from $20 to $5 000 were on offer in the promotion which ran from October to December last year.

A total of 1 158 winners walked away with cash prizes ranging between $20 and $5 000 each.

NetOne acting chief executive officer Brian Mutandiro said the promotion was a gesture to thank the mobile telecommunications firm’s loyal subscribers.

“The package is one of the major backbones of our network. It is a pay as you go offering and we have subscribers who recharge every day, giving us significant business. It was in this light that we saw it befitting to reward them with a promotion of this nature,” Mutandiro said.

Winners who started collecting their prizes last month were ecstatic, with many saying the cash would literally transform their lives.

“I had made a small saving and when I won the $5 000 mega prize I topped up and bought a commuter omnibus. Rough calculations show me that I can make $700 a month in this business and this should definitely change my life,” Guidance Kubika of Harare, who works for a transport firm, said.

Another lucky winner, Timothy Mafuka Nkomo, a small-scale farmer from Nyamandlovu in Matabeleland North province who also won a $5 000 windfall, was equally thrilled. “The cash prize came just at the right time for me. I invested all of it on my farm where I grow maize. If all goes well, I expect a turnover of not less than $10 000 largely courtesy of the windfall from NetOne,” he said.

NetOne late last year rolled out several promotions, in some instances in collaboration with the country’s major retail outlets such as OK Zimbabwe and TM Pick N Pay.
