Viosy Kapuro (24) was sentenced to a four-year jail term when he appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate, Mark Dzira on Friday. The court also brought forward a three-year jail term suspended from a previous related offence, leaving him to serve an effective seven-year jail term.

Prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega told the court that on January 22 last year, the juvenile was on his way from Beitbridge Border Post going to Limpopo View in Dulibadzimo suburb.

Kapuro, who was in the company of his friend, only identified as Edmore or Zambrota, who is still at large, stabbed the juvenile on the neck and once on the stomach before robbing him of a cooler bag containing mineral water.

Three days later, the juvenile managed to positively identify Kapuro as he passed close to his residence and alerted neighbours, who effected a citizen’s arrest and handed him over to the police.

The value of the stolen property was $34 and nothing was recovered.
