Tsvangirai’s successor named in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s main opposition MDC party has appointed an acting president following the death of its leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who passed away last night after a long illness.

BBC

Nelson Chamisa, the party’s former deputy, was nominated as interim president as hundreds of party supporters gathered outside the headquarters today to grieve and celebrate Mr Tsvangirai’s life.

The party said they had lost 65-year-old Tsvangirai at a crucial period, just months from elections.

But even as they mourn, a feud over who should succeed Tsvangirai as leader.

One vice-president – Elias Mudzuri – and several senior party members were absent from the national executive meeting.

Details of when the late leader’s body will return to Zimbabwe remain sketchy.

  1. Can Strive Masiiwa please stand up and fill the gap left by morgan. Tell the people that you are throwing your hat in for the Presidency in the coming election and the people will all vote for you regardless of their political stations. Do the right thing man for the sake of Zimbabwe and its people! Those tin pot politicians in MDC must never be allowed anywhere near the throne.

    1. mmmmmmmm if he wants to ruin his businessmanship let him dare try. politics is not business and business is not politics. VaMasiiwa tinovada chaizvo vari pavari ipapo. kwete manyepo omotuzvaidzana musade kufurira munhu.

    2. GET RID OF ZANU CONSTITUTION ( COMMUNIST )
      FUCK MUGABE WHO INTRODUCED IT
      GO TO THE BRITISH ONE

  2. Bra Bradwell, no one was born to be a politician, but your ego tells you that you gona be able to stand. Most people don’t have political degrees, but they turn into it because of certain things that did not go well according to their life plan.Your mentality is very bad and shallow by calling others as tin pot politicians, you are a true evil sell out.Down with your rotten spirit.

    1. donn insult others shandy

  3. Sandy you should be tolerant of different views. What has he sold out that’s his view

  4. @BRADWEL being rich does not mean one can be a good leader n some havadi politics. And if u dnt trust t remaining MDC leadership pliz shut yo mouth or form yo party n put Masiiwa as t leader coz u cant, ndosaka muchingoramba murimarombe coz u cant take risks in life, u sell ideas to others to become rich while u remain poor n poorer. Shame

  5. Mr Chamisa you have been given a great task to finish what the great states man have began. You are still youthfull ,preach the gospel of peace, unit and development and consider advice from your elders. We can make. You have my vote!

  6. The ship has sailed & Chamisa is now the new leader, too late for anyone to do anything about that

  7. We are rallying behind you Hon Chamisa Keep on preaching the gospel of peace and remain prayerful. This country needs a prayerful leader

    1. This is the demise of MDC, surely Chamisa for presidency my foot. He is not elected constitutionally and appoints himself as acting President when a constitutional elected Vice President incumbent Dr Khupe is there and worse when some are mourning he is fascinated with the position. This smacks of preaching democracy when he lacks such inside his brains. This is the test of MDC to practice democracy and let Khupe lead in the interim.

  8. Comment…khuphe shld tac over, she has been wth Tsvangirai from long bac. I think she cn do better

    1. Chamisa is more senior than Khupe in MDC

  9. Nelson Chamisa haasi Nelson Mandela!

I greatly respect Nelson Chamisa. In fact, he is one of my role models. He really inspires me by his fearlessness, his eloquence and his charisma. It is just the manner of his rising to power that gobsmacks of a coup. It can also be interpreted as a vote of no confidence in woman in general and the Ndebeles in particular. As one duly elected at Congress Khupe was the heir apparent until the palace coup that was engineered by the late national and international hero and gladly embraced by the unelected Chamisa. If he is so popular, why then does he employ ZANU PF like tactics to intimidate others, converting gullible youths to his own selfish end? In the past few weeks, I have been noticing Jonathan Moyo and Robert Mugabe in the cunning youthful politician. Chamisa is indeed a demagogue orator and so was Adolf Hitler and Robert Mugabe!

  10. politicians are the reason why we are so fucked in this country, some countries its because of diseases others business people stealing others their traditions differing from another sector, Zimbabwe its because of politics and politics alone. all politicians to be blamed for all the ups and

  11. Comment…Masiiwa is he talented in politics or business

  12. Venancio Village 13 Chirera

I think Nelson Chamisa is a gud person ro succeed the kate M Tsvangirai. This country need a youthful preident as like Chamisa. Those big fish only needs to feed themself. Khupe can’t be a president.

  13. Lets only see how it trends;but I don’t see Chamisa turning n good leader;is just being puffed up by MDC-T youths mobs, not even following their party’s proper rules. But leaves every thing vulnerable;the party is being forbidden to properly follow its laws by Chamisa’s youths mobs-what future has it?Itz actually going down;no donor funds will actually its way-such unprincipled organisation where everything is abused!Chamisa has already lost the focus of the united party.Must allow the party selection proceed with decency & keep the youth mobs away. But he seems not a wise leader & all will crumple under his leadership

    1. you are mad my friend. i dont care whatever you are saying. Acting presidency is interim, when both Mudzuri and Khupe left the country who then left with control over the party. mudzuri is a g40 cabal. kana zvamubata ngaabude anoita yake party

  14. Chamisa is the best

  15. secondly media especialy newspapers i hate news paper guys. they cant unite a party, They are the ones who cause havoc within the parties i edge them “NEWSPAPER” not to write amanga always please especialy at this hour of time we are torwards elections so pasi nenewspaper media until they report the truth, we are tired of yu news paper crew
pamberi naChamisa MDC and Chamisa you have my vote.

    1. T/O ALL THESE PROBLEMS

  16. I agree with a lot of the points. Its all very well being a businessman where you can ask people to jump and they would say how high.Politics is about serving people. A president I is employed by the the people. Chamisa was a flying high but he makes haist decision and the democracy he preaches only applies to other not him. If I was on the electorate he would not get my vote. He is one of those people who would make others a ladder to be able to climb.

  17. pasi naMudzuri he is a g40

  18. Chamisa watomisa kare makurukota ake ehurumende munhu wese kuna Chamisa please nyika ifambire mberi. Vaye vanoda kuzviuraya nekuda kwekufurirwa ifai asi Chamisa acharamba achingotonga ogotonga imi mafa.

  20. Normally I do not read article on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do so! Your writing style has been surprised me. Thanks, quite nice article.

  21. I am lucky that I discovered this web site, just the right info that I was looking for!

  22. Yah democracy i am sure ZANU PF has a better democracy. You can create a group to anoint yourself. Democracy yakazara

  23. Saddest bit is that MDC is going against the grain on all the aspects that Tsvangirai had at inception and that made us all VOTE and make him win 2008. Please can you sort this stuff out thick and fast and concentrate on 2018 election strategy. Infighting from people who share the same party ideologies happens everywhere in the world just different scales (Trump & The republicans) …. It would just be a breath of fresh air to have anything but Zanu PF in control… I think Chamisa has made some mistakes but for what it’s worth he’s young totally charismatic and it looks like the peeps like him. Welshman has been exemplary let’s get on with the business of getting Zanu PF out of Power… And for what it’s worth ED has been doing a semi good Job

  24. We support you Chamisa. We are behind you

  25. Chamisa is the right person.Munhu wese kuna Chamisa

  26. kkkkkkk chamisa ndinowona achitonga kana achiziva kutawura nevanhu asingatevedzeri mukadzi sa mugabe

  27. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Genuinely rarely must i encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you could have hit the nail on the head. Your thought is outstanding; ab muscles an element that too little consumers are speaking intelligently about. I am delighted that I stumbled across this at my hunt for some thing about it.
