The 17th edition of Nama is scheduled for February 17, 2018.

Figures released yesterday showed that the upsurge of 559 entries in all categories — Music, Literary, Dance, Visual, Film and Television, Theatre, Media and Spoken Word —represented a 72% increase from the 2016 submissions pegged at 775.

The awards organisers this year introduced online entry forms that recorded 215 entries that were submitted via the online platform.

Nacz spokesperson, Catherine Mthombeni said some of the entries in the categories were identified by monitors, whom they appointed to keep an eye on excelling artists throughout the year.

“The 17th Nama year ran from December 1st 2016 to November 30th 2017 witnessed a lot of excitement as many entries were received mid-year. Those who submitted include production houses, studios, stables, galleries, organisations, associations, groups, artistes, monitors and/or the public,” she said.

“A panel of independent adjudicators led by Professor Ruby Magosvongwe, who is chairperson of the Arts Promotion and Programming Committee of the NACZ Board converged on December 13 and commenced the process, leading to the announcement of nominees and winners of each award.”

Mthombeni said nominees will be released during the first week of February next year, in preparation of the red carpet ceremony on February 17 at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare.

Through Nama, Nacz recognises outstanding achievements within the creative sector by rewarding excelling artistes.
