The self-proclaimed Doctor of Football decided to pursue his business interests in mining after his stint with Border Strikers ended with the team’s relegation in 2016.

Masomere won the BancABC Super Cup with Shabanie Mine in 2013 in one of his success stories in the top-flight.

Speaking to NewsDay Sport, the maverick gaffer announced his return to football management.

“I am now back in the sport I love most. This time I will be based in Mutare at Manica Diamond FC where I have signed a one-year contract which I can renew,”said Masomere.

“As the Doctor of Football, I will turn Manicaland Diamond FC into a force to reckon with and as we speak trials are already underway to find talent which can be part of my team.

“The team will be in Division One, but I can tell you that in no time, we will be competing with the big boys of local football.”

He also revealed that three Premier Soccer League clubs had been vying for his services but would not reveal the clubs’ names.

“At the moment three clubs from the Premier Soccer League want my services but it’s too late because I am already head coach at Manica Diamonds FC.

“I am part of a team that has bigger ambitions and through hard work, we will climb up the ladder of success,” he said.

Manica Diamonds FC is owned by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamonds Company based in Mutare.

The 49-year-old started his coaching career at Hwange in 1994 and has coached a number of clubs in the country’s top-flight that include Masvingo United, Shabanie Mine, Dynamos, Border Strikers, Caps United and How Mine.

He also took charge of the Warriors between 2008 and 2009 while he had a stint in Botswana at Gaborone, Nico United and Notwane.
