FC Platinum spokesperson, Chido Chizondo confirmed the development, but stressed that the players were only coming for assessment by coach, Norman Mapeza.

“We are expecting two more foreign players from Zambia and Ghana. They should be coming by Monday (today) or Tuesday. But all these players are coming for trials. It’s not like they are coming to sign. They can only be signed after the trials, so basically it will depend on the coach,” she said.

Mapeza is building a strong team that can compete with the continent’s big boys. He has looked to West Africa to strengthen his squad for the campaign and is currently assessing two strikers from that part of the continent.

Ghanaian midfielder, Ibrahim Dauda arrived in the country last week and is undergoing trials with the Zimbabwean champions alongside Cameroonian teenager, Albert Eonde.

On the domestic scene, they are targeting several players including Highlanders captain, Rahman Kutsanzira, the Ngezi Platinum duo of Liberty Chakoroma and Qadr Amini, among others. The Zvishavane side were paired against Angolan football giants, Deportivo Lero Agosto in a draw conducted at the Caf headquarters in Egypt last week.

Should FC Platinum overcome the Angolan champions, they will face the winner between South African side, Bidvest Wits and Pamplemousse of Mauritius in the first round.

The Angolan champions are seasoned campaigners in African football, having made eight appearances in the prestigious tournament, reaching the quarter-finals of the lucrative tournament in 2009. In contrast, FC Platinum have failed to make an impact in the few times that they participated in the African safari.
