Mpofu visited Victoria Falls Hospital, Chinotimba Old People’s Home, Good Hope Foundation, Rose of Charity’s Children Home and one disabled cancer survivor, who had both his legs amputated.

District medical officer, Wisdom Kuraone said the fund had come at an opportune time when the institution was in great need of help.

“Some of the pressure we have been facing has been relieved, as you know that we are funded by government and the money from patients, the money is not enough. Like any other public health institution, we meet such challenges on daily basis, so for this festive season, instead of buying food, the money will go towards buying cleaning materials, fuel and drugs,” he said.

At least $3 500 was raised under the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, with local hotels donating groceries to various institutions taking care of underprivileged people.
