Chipawo manager Chipo Bhasopo said this year’s theme came up as a way of involving all age groups.

The event will also honour the country’s arts legends that include Simon Chimbetu, System Tazvida, Safirio “Mukadota” Madzikatire, Philip “Paraffin” Mushangwe, Simon “Mutirowafanza” Shumba, Gogo Mlambo and Chiwoniso Maraire (all late).

“The arts club was challenged to make everyone in the community happy, from the young ones and youths to the elders, so the children wanted to stage a show that would please the elders as well,” she said.

“The group came up with an idea with the help of spirit of Christmas to bring back everything down to memory lane — that is, going back to Christmas in the 1970s. This proved to have worked for they ventured into the life of our senior citizens using flashback of various old school music (pieces and) honouring our late arts legends.”

Bhasopo said the Christmas Show would ensure that children idolise foreign models.

Nearly 120 children will participate in this year’s Christmas show directed by Chipawo Youth Pioneers, with the assistance of dance and music arts educators.

Every year since 1995, the Chipawo community has presented a Christmas Show with a difference.

The annual Chipawo Christmas Show provides a treat for the family with Zimbabwean stories, songs and dances.
