You have the seal of the Holy Spirit

Opinion & Analysis
THE New Testament which brought about born again believers rests on the pedestal of the fuel of the Holy Spirit. The new covenant embraces the promise of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus promised before ascension: “However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable [good, expedient, advantageous] for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter [Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby] will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” John 16:7 Amplified. Acknowledging His presence and flow cements our joy regenerated Christians.

We cannot break the union of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of Christ is not dissociative to the functioning and operation of the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul teaches in Ephesians 1:13-14 Amplified: “In Him you also have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings [Gospel] of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit. 14 That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the first fruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it — to the praise of His glory.”

We worship God our Father in spirit and in truth. This does not mean we set aside the Bible, but rather rely on it as the bedrock of our faith.

Remember the Holy Spirit stands for your cause as a believer and packages your prayers and supplications unto the Father. Romans 8:26 puts it thus: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Oh what a great advocate we have. As a follower of this column, you know that I minister the Gospel of Christ, Grace of God, the Good News of Jesus Christ or His Glad Tidings. This is the New Testament ministry and it is of the Spirit of God not the Mosaic Law.

You do not have to be Holy Spirit filled to minister law, but you cannot dispense the truth of the grace of God without the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:6 talks of this ministry: “Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” The Holy Spirit does not kill, He is not a murderer.

What is this seal of the Holy Spirit? A seal is a token of proprietorship put by the owner upon his property; or it is the authentication of some statement or engagement, the official stamp that gives it validity; or it is the pledge of inviolability guarding a treasure from profane or injurious hands. There are the protecting seal, the ratifying seal, and the proprietary seal. The same seal may serve each or all of these purposes.

We are therefore secured, covered, protected and we do not perish nor diminish. God is our sole owner. We are not demonically possessed.

The witness of the Holy Spirit marks men out as God’s purchased right in Christ. We are not free for the enjoyment of the devil. Satan cannot molest us because Jesus Christ’s precious blood purchased us.

This blood is forever powerful to safeguard us. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 teach: “ What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” We are safe in the hands of the Redeemer. Ephesians 4:30 reads: “And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” We are guarded from evil and wrong.

The Holy Spirit ratifies our Divine sonship. Galatians 4:6 records: “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”

Our personal share in the promises of God is guaranteed. 2 Corinthians 1:20-22 point: “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”

It is a bond between God and men; a sign at once of what we are and shall be to God, and of what He is and will be to us. It secures, and it assures. It stamps us for God’s possession, and His kingdom and glory as our possession. Grace and peace be multiplied to you through knowledge.
