This was heard by Bulawayo magistrate Franklin Mkhwananzi on Tuesday when Calvin Nyandeni (22) was charged with the murder of Nqobizitha Zulu.

He was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to December 5.

The court heard that on November 14 this year, Nyandeni went to Obert Ncube’s homestead to charge his mobile phone.

Bekezela Zulu allegedly refused to charge it on account of the cloudy weather, since they were using solar panels.

This did not go down well with Nyandeni, who left in a huff. He allegedly returned to Ncube’s homestead that evening and sneaked into a hut while Proud Tshuma and Nqobizitha were asleep.

The court heard Nyandeni allegedly strangled Nqobizitha to death as Proud watched.

A report was made to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.

The police officer investigating the case, Joshua Ticharwa, in an affidavit said Nyandeni sneaked into the hut when Nqobizitha was sleeping and killed him.

He said that Nyandeni should not be granted bail as he would interfere with State witnesses.

“I am still waiting for a post-mortem report. There are outstanding witnesses’ statements and the accused person may interfere with the witnesses if granted bail before statements are recorded,” the police officer submitted.
