Mutasa said despite falling two points short of log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars and FC Platinum, his team still had a very good chance of winning the title.

He went back to history and referred to situations where DeMbare were written off, but resurrected and won the title when they were rated as underdogs.

“Our supporters should rally behind us until the final match is played. That is the spirit we want at Dynamos,” the DeMbare mentor said.

“Nobody has yet won the championship. I do not understand why people doubt our pedigree. The players are motivated to prove everybody wrong. We, as Dynamos, have been in this situation before and we emerged victors.”

He referred to 1995 where DeMbare went into the final day and against odds, won the championship, when he was still a player.

“In 1995, we went into the final round of fixtures needing a win against Black Rhinos and added to that, we had to score at least two goals for us to win the championship. Ian Gorowa scored for Rhinos and the task was even made harder since we were required to score three goals,” Mutasa said.

“Vitalis Takawira scored, I scored and then Tauya Murewa won us the league. Again, when Kalisto Pasuwa was coach, on two occasions, they won the league when they were least expected compared to their rivals. They won it over Harare City and ahead of ZPC Kariba when odds were staked against them.

“In those circumstances, it was even harder than it is now. So we know we are still on good footing to take the glory in the end.” Dynamos fell behind in the race after losing to Ngezi Platinum Stars, but they know that if they can win all their remaining four matches, they stand a good chance because points will be dropped between the top two sides.

Ngezi Platinum still have to visit Mandava for a date with FC Platinum and a draw in that match would best suit DeMbare.

But before they can think about what other teams can or cannot do, they have to take care of their own job.

Tomorrow, they face a potential banana skin when they take on the league’s in-form side, at least in the last five matches, Chapungu at the National Sports Stadium.

In their last home match, Dynamos played out a disappointing draw against Tsholotsho and know that they can ill afford such this time around as they try to play catch up.

But their run up to the match has not been the best as the truant duo of Denver Mukamba and Lincoln Zvasiya continued to grab headlines.

Mutasa has been resisting the temptation of taking in the two, who missed training and last week’s match without explanation.
