The accused, Denford Chivhima, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Josephine Sande who remanded him to November 10.

It is State’s case that on September 17 this year and in Glen View, Harare, at around 12 midnight, Chivhima, together with his suspected accomplices who have since been arrested, assaulted the now-deceased Jonathan Kutadzaushe all over the body using fists, booted feet, electric cables and switches.

As a result of the assault, Kutadzaushe allegedly sustained serious injuries before he was dumped at a house in Glen View 8.

The State alleged Collen Kapenzi, a resident at the house where Kutadzaushe was dumped, discovered the deceased lying helplessly in the yard and unable to talk. He then notified the police, who took the now-deceased to the police station.

While at the station, Kutadzaushe collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where he was treated and discharged, but the next day, the victim succumbed to the injuries.

Shumirai Nhira appeared for the State.
