The song, Makarekare, was released on the eve of the “military takeover” meant to restore sanity in the country.

In the reggae-infused track, Machekano reminisces of the good old days when Zimbabwe was still regarded as the breadbasket of Africa.

The South Africa-based musician said he started singing at a tender age and attributed his growth as a musician to the support of his family.

“I started doing music at a very tender age in church. Whenever I would sing, people would stand up and applaud. My brothers would come and lift me up and pat me on the back. They would encourage me to sing more,” he said.

Machekano said he wrote, composed and produced his own music.

He released his debut six-track album, Four Days Pagore, in 2015, and all the songs on the album touched on social and socio-economic issues.

Although the album did not receive a lot of airplay, it marked the arrival of a promising and talented artiste on the jazz scene.

Machekano has shared the stage with Prudence Katomeni and Cythia Mare although his dream is to have collaborations with big names in music such as the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah.
