Evans Chitiyo, who had just returned from Botswana where he works as a builder, is on the run after he allegedly murdered Lameck Manengureni (45) whom he accused of having an affair with his ex-wife Esther Mahosi (27).

Efforts to get a comment from police in Mashonaland East province were fruitless yesterday.

According to sources, on November 18 at around 1am, Chitiyo arrived at his father’s place from Botswana where he spoke briefly with his two daughters before leaving. It is reported that he went to Warrendale Farm where Mahosi stayed.

It is said the suspect knocked on the door and was welcomed by Mahosi.

It is reported that Chitiyo found the now-deceased lying on the bed naked and started assaulting him using booted feet and fists all over the body, accusing him of fornicating with his wife.

It is reported Mahosi tried to refrain Chitiyo, but was overpowered. Manengureni started bleeding from the nose and mouth during the assault.

Upon realising that he had injured Manengureni, Chitiyo reportedly stormed out of the house and disappeared into the darkness.

Mahosi reported the matter at Goromonzi Police Station before Manengureni was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare for treatment were he died a few hours later.
