The villagers — Mmeli Ndiweni (20), Asa Ncube (46), Phathisani Ngwenya (40), Ephraim Msebele (37) and Felistus Sembo — were sentenced on their own plea of guilty for illegal occupation of State land when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nyaradzo Ringisayi on Saturday.

The court was told that the complainant in the matter is Sibonginkosi Moyo (35) employed as a cartographer by the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement.

It is the State case that sometime between 2013 and November 10 this year, the villagers invaded the farm and defied several eviction orders, leading to their arrest last week.
