Madamombe said the exhibition, which ran from Monday to Wednesday, was designed to celebrate strides made by women globally.

“An idea planted into a woman is assured of bearing fruits. To recognise the essence of a woman and womanhood, the exhibition is aptly themed, The Seed. It celebrates women’s contributions and possibilities they avail. The aim is therefore to appreciate what women can do and become,” she said.

Madamombe, who had just completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Arts, showcased various artefacts she did since her first year.

“This exhibition showcases my work from first year — paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, digital art and mixed media. I am very passionate about the contribution of women globally so my works are a personal expression of everyday thoughts, fancies, imaginations and experiences,” she said.

The exhibited works included Fambai Neni (2014), Ruzivo (2015), Defiance (2016) and My Pride (2017).

Madamombe said Fambai Neni signified the essence of a mother figure in life as on the digital artefact a male takes the role of a mother to bring up a child.

Milton Masaka, who was representing Arts, Culture and Heritage director in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Biggie Saruwanda commended Madamombe’s contributions to the art industry.

“Her passion and commitment to art is evident in her artistic pursuits. She has participated in several community art engagements and also international events including Zimbabwe Fashion Week, The Zimbabwe-Detroit Exchange Programme and, recently, the British Council-sponsored Fak’ugesi Digitsl Arts festival in South Africa,” he said.

CUT lecturer Knowledge Mushohwe hailed Madamombe’s parents for allowing her to pursue studies in arts.

“It’s not everyone that allows their children to be artists, but her parents allowed her. He added that some artists opened designing companies after their studies,” he said.
