With two matches to go, DeMbare maintained their title push by moving above Ngezi Platinum Stars, who faltered with a draw, while they stayed two points behind FC Platinum, who also won.

Skipper Ocean Mushure opened the account for Dynamos in the 32nd minute from a free-kick just outside the penalty box.

It was a trademark sleek curler which beat goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda after Mushure had been felled by Bulawayo City captain Zibusiso Sibanda.

Quality Kangadze was on target once more for the Glamour Boys, beating Sibanda under a minute into the second half, getting to the end of a cross by Mushure.

With FC Platinum springing to the top with 66 points after beating Tsholotsho at Luveve, and Ngezi Platinum Stars playing a 2-2 draw with Chicken Inn at Baobab to settle on 64 points at par with Dynamos, the Glamour Boys gaffer Lloyd Mutasa was pleased that his team had kept fighting, having been ruled out at some point in the race.

“It was a hard-fought victory. We played against a good Bulawayo City side, but we managed to convert the chances that came our way,” he said.

“The position that we are, the destiny is not in our hands. We are just saying let us give it a go. We will only say it’s over when it’s over. We will try as much as we can until the last day. We have faith, we have the belief that anything can happen and the Lord has been on our side and it’s the reason we are where we are. Many ruled us out of the top four, but we are still in the mix.”

Dynamos showed the zeal to win the game more than their counterparts Bulawayo City, who have been pushed down to the relegation zone with 35 points after the defeat.

Kangadze and Masimba Mambare could have scored in the dying minutes of the game, but they both fluffed the chances which came their way.

Bulawayo City coach Mandla Mpofu, now hard-pressed to win his two remaining matches, believes his side can still survive.

“We are in trouble, but I would like to appreciate the performance of the boys today. We have not been playing well of late. We showed a lot of hunger going forward, but it was too late,” he said.

“As much as we are in danger in terms of relegation, the performance of the boys was just unbelievable. We really need to fight in the last two games, there are no two ways about it.”

Bulawayo City, on 35 points with Harare City, were dislodged by Shabanie Mine, who beat Hwange 1-0 at Maglas.
