ONE person was killed and 12 others hospitalised on Tuesday night when the commuter omnibus they were travelling in burst a tyre along the Nketa Drive in Bulawayo as the nation celebrated the resignation of the then President Robert Mugabe.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed yesterday that one life was lost following the accident which occurred around 8pm.

She said other 12 passengers who were in the Tshova Mubaiwa kombi were taken to hospital as they were seriously injured.

“I can confirm the accident that happened yesterday [Tuesday] involving a Tshova Mubaiwa kombi which was carrying 13 people which burst a tyre. One person died on the spot while 12 others were critically injured,” Simango said.

Eyewitnesses attributed the tyre burst to speeding.
