‘Mugabe needs $8m for ED’s head’

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF needs $8 million to hold an extraordinary congress aimed at firing Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, drawing widespread condemnation from the opposition.

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

People’s Democratic Party spokesperson Jacob Mafume yesterday said the succession wars in Zanu PF were being unhelpful and now putting a premium on the economy and government business.

“How can they justify the use of that kind of money to fire just one man? Why can’t they ask him nicely to retire for a fraction of that money? The whole nation cannot be made to dance to the sound of madness at such cost. It is clear that Mugabe has given his wife the Presidency, so why try to force the whole nation to act as if it has agreed to that?” he said.

Faced with succession pressure and the need to push out his longstanding ally, Mugabe will be calling for a special congress which appears poised to push out Mnangagwa and replace him with a woman Vice-President.

MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said if voters needed any good reason to remove Mugabe and his party in the 2018 general elections, they should look no further than costly rallies and the $8 million extraordinary congress that Zanu PF would be funding while the economy burns.

“You can be assured that the sum of $8 million will be coerced from financially struggling parastatals and some other such businesses,” he said.

“Instead of running around to raise money for our struggling public hospitals, the Zanu PF regime is more interested in holding a grand feasting and praise-and-worship function disguised as an extraordinary congress. People will be competing to heap more praises on Robert Mugabe at this function.”

Zanu PF secretary for finance Obert Mpofu said Zanu PF would embark on a $8 million fundraising drive to finance the extraordinary congress.

Zanu PF has already spent an estimated $20 million holding Presidential youth interface rallies in eight provinces. It still needs $5 million to host two more rallies in Harare and Bulawayo and a further $3 million to be funded by the Ministry of Higher Education to host over 70 000 students for a rally with Mugabe.

  1. Fantastic heading but equally mischievious.

  2. Hey Mpofu, why can’t the same Zanu Pf fundraise money for our hospitals and other worthy causes? Always fundraising money for useless gatherings.

  3. zanu pf under ED was going to survive, considering his support amongst whoever had participated in the liberation struggle. He also is a feared individual surrounded by feared people.
Now with the prospects of what we are
reading, this is the end of Zanu pf.

    1. Mangundu, this continued fallacy that the liberation struggle heroes are the best to take this country forward is totally misplaced. If anything they have become a heavy stone around this nation’s neck. We actually need to forge a new chapter which maintains respect for them but consign them to the sidelines of this country’s political future. We are sick and tired of being reminded about certain people being “stockholders” as if this God given country can be held to ransom by a select few. They have no clue about how this country can be made to work again except to espouse policies of exclusion and arrogance. We actually need a fresh start–outside the current G40/Lacoste devide.

      1. we need that transitional arrangement dude. From hardline war stalwats to reformed war leaders and subsequently a born free. history is key

      2. Unoda kuwhorshipa vanhu here , no one from Zanu can take this country forward not even E D , I bet you my last cent ukaramba uchifunga izvozvo urikure. We need totally different person and paty from Zanu shamwari, usanyeperwe!

  4. Firing Ed will be their last supper with no prospects of resurrection. Aurevoir Zanu.

  5. The end is nearer watch out ,even if zanupf insert this women into presidium their part is already in tat tares.

    1. a blatant lie how can a conference cost $8m

  6. The end will arrive, like it or not; whether sooner with the departure of e d, or later under some other conditions. Of course, the sooner the better. But whatever form it takes it is certain and definite that
    chinobhururuka chinomhara
    and
    chisingaperi chinoshura.

Hey you idiots,ZANU PF has no busyness in organising fundraising galas for ministries but for its functions and programmes. PDP spokesperson Jacob Mafume and MDC-T Obert Gutu why stoop so low and be dragged by these journalist to commend on such topics that exposes you. Instead of concentrating on your party programmes you are busy commenting on ZANU PF issues.

    1. You are so right my man. They should mind their own affairs. If zanu raises $10 million to fire Ed or whoever so what? not their business!

      1. It is their business as much as it should be yours because they don’t raise this $8mil from thin but by the same corrupt means as exposed in the Jona and Gandawa saga,,, milking and daylight thefts in our parastatals.WAKE UP!! Someone somewhere has to say it. For your own education, free of charge that is,,,,,, Opposition that does not make errors of the ruling party its business and gains is not an opposition. Look how Malema has brought down Zuma through the guptaz/zuptaz issue. Thats opposition politics baba!

    2. Nhai nhai. The opposition guys are busy commenting on ZANU PF matters day in day out but they have similar issues in their own parties. The worst thing is whilst Mugabe has started campaigning for the 2018 elections long back they are stuck in coalition negotiations and also not giving information on why we should vote for their parties. No mobilisation, no fundraising, no campaigning but they have took upon themselves to comment on anything and everything that happens in ZANU PF – so pathetic.

  8. WHO SAYS ED WILL BE FIRED? All THESE SO CALLED POLITICAL ANALYSTS ARE TALKING RUBBISH. BOB IS SMART ENOUGH NOT TO FIRE ED-YET. AFTER THE ELECTIONS WHICH HE HOPES TO WIN-ED HOKOYO ! FOR NOW PEOPLE JUST NEED TO SHUT UP AND LET ZANU IMPLODE THOUGH I DOUBT IT WILL AS THIS IS A MONSTER AND IT KEEPS ON SURVIVING. THE HAPLESS OPPOSITION IS NOT MAKING THINGS ANY BETTER. ED WILL NOT BE FIRED COME CONGRESS. THERE WILL BE A THIRD PARTY VP TO ACCOMMODATE A WOMAN.

    1. You sound like you have no eyes and ears and have no clue in what has been happening and is happening where you are right now.

  9. AAAAh hanzi zvirikutevera muridzi(mufi) .That will be the end of ZANU PF.Its not a party but an individual

  10. What about just feeding the crocodile another ice cream cone for 50 cents and using US$7 999 950 on more urgent issues affecting the nation eg importation of medication.

    1. Mishonga Kuvanhu

@Musketeer.. You are on point Bro…… This is a good example of misplaced priorities shown by our so called leaders. They can afford proper healthcare which they get in Asia courtesy of the taxpayer. In the meantime the herald is reporting on the outbreak of Typhoid in Mbare..

  11. meant US$7 999 999.50 on medications.

  12. This is just a decoy, with Chombo sitting behind the national cash till we all know he is going to just make a cash withdrawal of $10mill. $8mill will go to the congress & the other $2mill will head straight into his pocket

  13. Oh come on, we all know tha zanupf spends millions from the national cash register to fire and hire bigwigs.
They also spend millions of dollars to fund the monthly holiday trips for His Excellence and the first family.
No to mention the regular trips to Singapore where the president’s spine is worked out to remain erect and to fetch his supply of antisleeping pills.

  14. The Opposition parties in Zimbabwe have lost the plot. There are busy concentrating on Zanu P.F issues instead of mobilizing each other and take advantage of the problems of the ruling Party.Ndiko kunonzi kurara nezamu mumukanwa chaiko. Its a pity that we have this kind of Opposition in Zimbabwe.

  15. I think Gutu &Mafume are right;it their job as opposition to point to the errors of the incumbents for the electorate to find reasons to de-elect the spoilers. Itz true service delivery is suffering but they are celebrating in useless congresses;the purpose of the opposition is to alert the electorate such that they are in, at informed positions,so that they vote correctly-what a gvt which prioritize their enjoyment meetings ahead their very mandate at state

  16. Who said they are poking their noses in zanu pf’s affairs-whatz their role as opposition then.Putting enjoyment meeting ahead of their very mandate at state!

  17. Why US$ and not Bondnotes this could be a trick so the first family can continue jetsetting whereever they wish including to the moon?

  18. Va Mugabe pasina imi hapana hupenyu zimboz knowz that.victory 2018

Anyone who was contempleting to vote for zanu pf out of choice or out of fear should think twice. This zanu pf government does not know where to draw the line between zanu pf party and the government. They just take money from the same parastatals that the majority should be relying on in terms of services and employment. The parastatals are manned by political appointees mostly retired army personnel who are not the ideal candidates for the jobs in terms of qualifications and experience as long as they can sing loud enough for their supper they do not give it a second thought if zanu pf requests funds from them.Organisations like PSMAS,Zupco,GMB,National Railways,Air Simbabwe have been brought down to their knees by zanu pf and the effects have been felt by the general populace who have had to endure shortages of maize, lack of medical services because PSMAS will have no money to pay the doctors on account Cuthbert Dube, whose salary of a quarter of a million per month that was approved by the PSMAS board does not even ask the zanu pf party whether they will return the money or not,he just dishes it like confetti.Thousands of workers were laid down from NRZ and Air Simbabwe. This party can employ the most inhuman methods just to remain at the helm.Imagine spending 8 million dollars for a conference when the ordinary man in the street can no longer afford to have two meals a day and let alone send kids to school. The irony of it is that the same people whom zanu pf made poor that you see being used by this same barbaric party for most of the dirty work against opposition party supporters. It beats me big time!

  20. I know its painful to the general public. One day they will harvest what they are sowing.
