In a statement, the committees said as part of MDC Alliance’s strategic framework, provincial members formed committees around strategic areas, namely, provincial co-ordinating, elections, mobilising and information and publicity committees, which are expected to strategise on mobilising, voter registration and voter education, among other tasks.

PDP deputy national spokesperson, Edwin Ndlovu was elected chairperson of the information and publicity committee, deputised by Felix Mafa Sibanda, the MDC-T Bulawayo spokesperson, with Adrian Moyo of MDC elected secretary.

These positions would be rotated monthly.

“As the alliance gets into full throttle campaign mode, it is expected that the formation of these committees will ensure massive participation in next year’s election. The committees are made up of members from all the alliance parties,” the statement read.

“Top on the committee’s agenda is to seek ways of addressing the challenge of voter apathy, particularly among the youth, while at the same time coming up with counter-rigging mechanisms that will guard against a stolen election.”

The committee noted: “While doomsayers and detractors are busy majoring on minors and foretelling fake prophecies about the MDC Alliance, they were busy with the real task at hand, which is to bring political and economic change to the suffering Zimbabwean masses, which can only be achieved through removing the incumbent tyrant Zanu PF government from power.

“We reiterate once more that there is no going back on the MDC Alliance and united we will not rest until we finish the battle of liberating our beloved nation. Our leaders have assured us that no amount of vilification can derail them from the agenda for change.

“We, therefore, urge all Zimbabwean citizens to stand steadfast and unwavering amidst meaningless storms, as the MDC Alliance stands as the only answer and solution to the multi-layered afflictions affecting our country. We are stronger together, together we are stronger. ”

MDC Alliance formation has created divisions within the MDC-T and PDP parties with members, mostly from Matabeleland, openly opposing the move. MDC-T vice-president, Thokozani Khupe and PDP secretary-general, Gorden Moyo have openly challenged the formation of the alliance.
