‘Chiwenga can’t turn against Mugabe’

Zanu PF Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba has accused Young Turks in the ruling party of sowing seeds of divisions between President Robert Mugabe and senior leaders within the ruling party as well as the military.

BY RICHARD CHIDZA

Chinotimba told a local radio station in an interview on Monday that Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Constantino Chiwenga along with other liberation war veterans had protected Mugabe’s life and could not turn against the 93-year-old Zanu PF leader.

“The President is being told someone wants to kill him. He is told Chinotimba does not like you, Chiwenga hates you and (Airforce Commander Perrance) Shiri does not like you by these young people. They are lying these Johnnies-come-lately, which could cause a collapse of the party,” Chinotimba said.

Zanu PF is split between two distinct factions with one known as G40, pushing for First Lady Grace to succeed Mugabe, while the Lacoste faction is sympathetic to Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mugabe has in the past few months accused army generals of dabbling in Zanu PF factional politics ordering them to keep off.
Chinotimba added they had protected Mugabe during the war.

“We fought with the President and protected him, suddenly these youngsters come and claim we want the President out. There are so many people who are lying to the President. They want to get positions through lying. They tell the President lies in order to make him suspicious forcing him to dump some people from the party and government. If the President is told someone wants to kill him, then the best idea for him would be to fire the person accused,” Chinotimba said.

The lawmaker drew parallels between Zanu PF and the main opposition MDC-T, arguing that even former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was being fed with lies about his deputy Thokozani Khupe.

“The same is happening in the MDC-T, Tsvangirai is being told that Khupe does not like him or wants to remove him. Tsvangirai formed the MDC with Khupe and suddenly they do not see eye-to-eye because of liars. Some people actually now want Khupe sacked. Our people must learn not to be used,” the Buhera South MP said.

G40 boasts among its leading lights party commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo. Moyo has not hidden his disdain for Mnangagwa, accusing him of plotting to unseat Mugabe by foul means. Mnangagwa has responded, accusing Moyo of being an American spy, citing his public declaration that Zanu PF could only be destroyed from within.

Khupe and Tsvangirai are now trying to mend fences after a fallout over a proposed alliance ahead of elections next year.

  1. Mugabe is the one lying to himself by daydreaming that he’ll be president forever amen, that’s where all the mess is emanating from

  2. All we know is Chinoz you are a lunatic and remember at one time the President denied you from contesting on zanupf ticket because on lunacy.

  3. But here i think Chinoz is right even though being a lunacy as@eliasha said , remember vanhu vakaudzwa hondo nemuhwere wefungwa vakamuseka .

    • If you listen to Hon. Chinotimba carefully, there is always sense in what he says. He might not be very articulate but he talks sense. After all, English is not our language! And for him to draw parallels between Zanu PF and MDC-T means the guy has an idea of what is happening in the political circles.

      • Very correct and could not have been far from truth. Even in Parliament just listen when he talks sense yet some so called educated have never opened their mouths since being sworn in. He lacks English but to me talks sense through and through. Or yes he maybe a lunatic that shot that woman in Glen Norah or that led violent land grabs but I really admire his way of doing business.
Last week he was asking why our fuel is more expensive than Zambia’s yet they get more on transportation from SA passing through Zimbabwe. Fuel has been expensive in Zimbabwe since the dollarisation but noone asked why we paid more than countries far away from us that also use our highways for transporting it.

  4. In any family setup there is a mad man or woman but listen to the madness carefully. Chinozi is right he is not a lunatic in this regard. there are bootlickers in these political parties who are ardent liars.

  5. In Zanu pf you dont have to be right but u have to do what RGM wants. Poor Chinoz is naive and does not realise this. Ngwena, Chiwenga and all have done nothing wrong but they happen not to fit in RGM’s plans. A reason has to be found to move them out of the way. RGM has never liked Ngwena never mind previously pretentions to suit a specific agenda at any given time.

  6. But who doesn’t know that Chiwenga supports Lacoste and also harbours ambitions for the highest political office in Zimbabwe. Even if they don’t want to eliminate Mugabe, they however want to rule after Mugabe. This is also a corrupt, evil, merciless and arrogant military junta which does not believe in democracy but a sense of entitlement just because they VOLUNTARILY joined the war of liberation at a tender age. They should never be allowed to climb the political ladder otherwise we will be doomed for ever.

    • we won’t be as doomed as we are izvozvi especially if dr mai takes over . hatichadi vanhu vanongo bhururuka bhururuka Willy nilly as if its free

  7. Chinoz you genius. 1 you have just exposed yourself that you belong to camp lacoste by attacking G40. 2 you have admiration or at least symphathy for Tsvangirai and hence the unsolicited advice you give him concerning Khupe. 3 Politics really is a bit above your head. Do you for a minute think RGM doesn’t know that lacoste is as faithful to him as a canine its master. All RGM wants is to bulldoze his wife to the highest office. Period! @%£#/ any collateral damage that may result. My advice cde Chinoz is you try to reinvent yourself as the country’s next funny man along the moulds of Mukadota Mutirowafanza etc. At least that’s something falling within your natural realms.

  8. chinoz is the last straw if you don’t take his advice seriously hameno henyu besides all that retire and stop flying every where just for the last sake of flying especially where your not invited you are thw preside nt of flying Zimbabwe this time around we isu vezanu vacho wont vote for you if your name is on that ballot paper representing zanu pf at 94 regardless of Zimbabwe how smart you are

  9. Comment…Haazi sascam Chinoz imi ndimi masascam munoti mukayambirwa chinhu motomhanyira kuti G40 and Lacoste, zvave kutotibhowa. Chero kutotenga mota chaiyo yave kunzi ndeye G40/Lacoste.

  10. Wise counsel indeed from Cde Chinos but who really cares whether ED and Mugabe are friends or enemies? Who benefits from their camaraderie? They are the same collaterally and have all contributed to the demise of this great nation. Pasi navo.Regai zvitatsurane.

  11. Chinos is saying the truth but the problem is like company bosses Mugabe enjoy vanhu vemakuhwa. You know the most favorite staff members of any corporation are sweepers and messengers, why, because most of them peddle lies and rumors and that is what they want. Mugabe has fired everyone from zanupf using gossip. Anybody who heard him in Bindura will think the man is clever, no he is a rumor gatherer.

  16. Comment…aah on the issue of succession ED has every democratic right to show interest in succeding RGM. All those bootlickers like Kasukuwere and Jonso do have something up their sleeves. .Heya marujata chete ndiye anekodzero kuti anoda openly.
