THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has upgraded its Automated System for Customs Data (Asycuda) World to stamp out inherent system challenges associated with the current version.

The system streamlines customs procedures and enhances systems controls while eliminating the need of human interventions during operation. The system was early this month.

Zimra head of corporate communications Canisio Mudzimu said the taxman has adopted the latest version of Asycuda World and the upgrade was set to be complete by year end.

“The Authority is also currently in the process of upgrading Asycuda World from version 4.2.0 to the latest version 4.3.1 to address some of the inherent system challenges which are associated with the current version, and to enhance the functionality and benefits of the upgraded version. Zimra expects to complete the upgrade of Asycuda World to the latest version by the end of the year,” he said in e-mailed responses to NewsDay inquiries.

The system interfaces with other government and international organisations, automation of all/most customs processes, use of non-intrusive search and transit monitoring methods and Easy navigation of the system on the website/webpage.

Mudzimu said challenges that were encountered in connection with the Asycuda World early this month were rectified on September 6 and the system has been up since then.

“As you appreciate technical challenges may affect any system in its lifespan and the most critical aspect is rectifying the problem as it arises and within the shortest possible timeframes. To this end, Zimra has mechanisms in place to ensure that any technical faults to any of the authority’s systems, which include Asycuda World, are dealt with promptly,” he said.

Mudzimu said Zimra has a robust business continuity plan which ensures that processes continue to run smoothly as the authority swiftly attends to any technical fault that might arise, adding that this business continuity plan safeguards the country from any potential losses.

Zimra switched to Asycuda World in 2011 whose functionalities are trade facilitation (faster clearance of goods at ports of entry), enhanced system controls (shift from paper based control to electronic), intelligent electronic risk management system that is updated periodically and easy compilation of trade statistics.
