Muzimba passed on early on Saturday morning at his Mutare home after a short illness, leaving behind four children and three grandchildren.

Addressing hundreds of people at his final resting place at Yeoville Cemetery, Zanu PF ward 12 councillor Shepherd Jojo took the opportunity to urge mourners to register and vote for the ruling party.

“Yes, we lost a fatherly figure. He was a humble person. I am happy that we have attended the funeral in our large numbers. But I want you to vote for me and President Robert Mugabe. Please go and register,’’ he said.

Zanu PF Manicaland provincial legal affairs secretary and aspiring Mutasa South MP, Misheck Mugadza, said he was happy with the unity shown by mourners.

“I am humbled because when there is a funeral in this ward 12, mourners turn out in their numbers. We should remain united in this time of sorrow,’’ he said.

Muzimba worked at Zimbabwe Newspapers’ Manica Post before joining Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe’s Daily News before it was shut down in early 2003.

Thereafter, he had been freelancing until his untimely death.

Top Mutare magistrate Nyasha Kuture attended the funeral, while Zanu PF Dangamvura/Chikanga MP Esau Mupfumi, who is out of the country, conveyed his condolence message.
