The annual Harare International Carnival roars to life today with a street party starting with a march from Simon Vengayi Muzenda (Fourth) Street, through Jason Moyo Avenue to the Civic Grounds, after a one year sabbatical due to lack of funding.

The annual Harare International Carnival roars to life today with a street party starting with a march from Simon Vengayi Muzenda (Fourth) Street, through Jason Moyo Avenue to the Civic Grounds, after a one year sabbatical due to lack of funding. Running under the theme, One Love, Our Unity, Our Pride, this year’s 10-day fiesta will run until September 10 at different venues in Harare featuring representatives from over 25 countries. Grammy award-winning Jamaican reggae-dancehall musician Beenie Man and United Kingdom-based popular wheel spinner-cum-television and radio presenter Tim Westwood will share the microphone with DRC rhumba maestro Werrason, South African entourage comprising Babes Wodumo, Zodwa Wabantu, Busiswa, Dr Malinga and Uhuru alongside local entertainers Charles and Oliva Charamba, Jah Prayzah, Andy Muridzo, Soul Jah Love, Sulumani Chimbetu, Jeys Marabini and Sandra Ndebele.

Manor Hotel Bulawayo

Manor Hotel in Bulawayo will tomorrow host the Chibuku Road to Fame Bulawayo provincial finals. Several groups will entertain revellers as they fight for honours to book the ticket to represent the province at this year’s national finals set for September 30 at Glamis Arena in Harare. The ultimate winners will clinch the main prize of $7 000 and a recording contract, with the second and third runners-up pocketing $5 000 and $3 000 respectively. The Chibuku Road to Fame music talent showcase is a grassroots talent identification programme sponsored by Delta Beverages, through their Chibuku brand, in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.

2 Canterbury Kensington

Curtains will come down tomorrow at the annual Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF) which began last week in Kensington and Mufakose. This year’s edition of the fiesta was held in collaboration with the International Image Film Festival (IIFF) under the themes The Business of Film and Of Women, By Women, for the People for ZIFF and IIFF respectively. Some of the programmes presented by ZIFF include film forum workshops, outreach, short film projects and the Hi-5 short film competition, while the IIFF presented their second edition of the women Entrepreneurs Publicity Hub, among other programmes.

Meikles Hotel

Gospel musician and comedian Fellistas “Mai Titi” Murata will this evening launch her reality talk show, For The Why with Mai Titi at Meikles Hotel in Harare. Mai Titi has proved to be popular and has become a star through her humorous skits trending on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube.

The lead animator of the popular TV series Game of Thrones Jonathan Symmonds, who is currently visiting Zimbabwe, will this afternoon address a gathering themed Meet Up being hosted by Comexposed at Moto Republik in Harare.

The Usual Place

Afro-jazz musician Diana MaNgwenya Samkange will tonight entertain guests at The Usual Place at Jameson Hotel in Harare. The songstress will donate half of the proceeds from the concert to charity as she commemorates her 11 years in the music industry.

Alexandra Sports Club

Afro-jazz musician Alexio Kawara will tomorrow headline this month’s edition of the One Big Party concert at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare. The Shaina hitmaker will share the stage with popular South African dancer and singer, Babes Wodumo and Diana Samkange alongside wheel spinners DJ RayDizz, Trill Angel, DJ Lyaness, Dee Nosh and L Roy.

Club Fox

Veteran musician Leonard Zhakata starts his weekend shows tonight with a performance at Club Fox in Glen View 3 before he takes his act to Shamva tomorrow to serenade revellers at Tippaz Bar and Night Club.

Chinhoyi University of Technology

Chinhoyi University of Technology’s School of Hospitality and Tourism will today host the second edition of the arts festival dubbed Chirorodziva Calabash as a way of promoting tourism through arts and culture. This year’s edition of the festival will feature an array of musicians among them sungura singer Romeo Gasa, Jazz Attack, Harare Polytechnic band, Kadoma-based Budiriro Dance Group and other groups from Chinhoyi, alongside poets and a calabash kitchen which will showcase traditional cuisine will also be part of the programme.

Pagango Truck Inn

There will be entertainment galore at Pagango Truck Inn 26km along the Harare-Masvingo Highway as artistes across genres including Jah Prayzah, dancehall sensation Soul Jah Love, Progress Chipfumo and sungura singer Solo Mutambi will take turns to entertain merrymakers at the outdoor joint.

Prime Night Club

Raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda and her Sexy Angels outfit tomorrow take their act to Ruwa with a performance at Prime Night Club. Fans will be in for a treat as Bev has a record of leaving male patrons salivating with her energetic performance punctuated with well-choreographed dance routines.

Surrey Braai Open area, Marondera

Sungura maestro Alick Macheso will tomorrow once again headline the fourth edition of Surrey Braai fest at Surrey Braai Open area at the 55km peg along the Harare-Mutare Highway. The fourth edition of the festival will also feature Andy Muridzo and Lady Storm.

Nyamakwere Garden Mutoko Centre

Sungura musician Peter “Young Ingwe” Moyo backed by his Utakataka Express band tomorrow will serenade revellers at Nyamakwere Gardens at Mutoko Centre. The Mushonga Mukuru hitmaker will share the stage with rhumba sensation Lady Storm supported by her Swag band. Harare-based wheel spinners DJ Huzhegu and Esco will be take turns to rock it on the turntables.

Busters Sports Club, Bulawayo

Organisers of the monthly Unplugged Zimbabwe concert will for the first time tomorrow take the concert to Bulawayo after a series of Harare shows. The Djembe Monks, rapper Calvin and Mbira Queen Hope Masike will be among the headlining artistes at the concert set for Busters Sports Club. Popular wheel spinners DJ Reverb 7 and TK Beats will be rocking it on the turntables.

Large City Hall Car Park

Popular South African dancer and singer, Babes Wodumo tonight takes her act to the City of Kings with a performance at the Large City Hall Car Park. The Wololo hitmaker will share the stage with Andy Muridzo and Sandra Ndebele among other acts.

Gwanda

Gospel followers in Gwanda and surrounding areas are in for a treat as the annual three-day Gwanda Gospel Festival roars to life tonight until Sunday. The star-studded line up of local performers includes Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, ZimPraise, Mahendere Brothers, Takesure Zama, ZCC Mbungo Stars, Knowledge Nkiwane, Tholakile Dhlamini, Judith Moyo. They will share the stage with Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Lusanda Spiritual Group, Bethusile Mcinga and Solly Mahlangu all from South Africa.
