THE Zimbabwe Jazz Community Trust is set to host the inaugural Zimbabwe Jazz Festival at Alliance Française/Chez Zandi’s in Harare on Saturday from 2pm to 10pm.
The organisation’s chairperson, Robert Basvi said they are planning to make the festival an annual event “for the enjoyment of jazz enthusiasts in the country because the festival is unique as it brings together strictly jazz musicians”.
He said the idea was to showcase some of the country’s amazing talent to help revive jazz in the country.
“In the coming years, however, we will also feature international jazz artistes as we grow the event,” he said.
Jazz lovers will be in for a treat as the festival will incorporate several jazz sub-genres with an array of artistes including Frank Mavhimira, Vee Mukarati, Raven Duchess, Africherry, Rhythmic Pulse, Mbare Trio, Josh Meck, Intotal, Rute Mbangwa and Tanga wekwa Sando.
Basvi said as a long term objective, the non-profit organisation intends to enter into partnerships with colleges and universities to provide scholarships for deserving students as part of a campaign to promote jazz talent in Zimbabwe.—Precious Chida
