GWERU town clerk, Elizabeth Gwatipedza yesterday said council had resolved to re-flight tenders for the supply of earthmoving equipment after the company that won the first tender, Panhard Trading, failed to deliver the consignment.

The company won the tender to supply a tipper truck and other earthmoving machinery last November, but later wrote to the city council, saying they no longer had the capacity to deliver.

“After we received a letter from Panhard Trading that they could no longer afford to deliver the equipment, the procurement committee had a meeting and it was agreed that we go to tender again,” she said.

Gwatipedza said the local authority was contemplating suing the company for breach of contract.

“We are also consulting with our legal department on whether or not the council can sue following this breach of contract,” she said.

Gwatipedza said the equipment would be used to service roads in the new Mkoba Village 21 suburb.

She said council had initially targeted finishing servicing the stands by the end of this year, but could no longer meet the deadline due to delays in the delivery of the equipment.
