Chiyangwa has pushed Zim football into abyss

Zifa’s decision to rescind the red card shown to Dynamos player, Christian Ntouba is probably one of football’s most diabolic and shameful decisions and it is a hallmark of Philip Chiyangwa’s presidency, where populism rather than football reigns supreme.

As a starting point, Ntouba head-butted a Highlanders player and there can be no excuse for the violent conduct and the red card was well-deserved.

That the referee had a poor game does not in any way excuse Ntouba’s behaviour and instead of rescinding the red card, Zifa could have chosen to punish him further.

What then led to Zifa rescinding the red card borders on the bizarre and opens the door for impunity, as other players will justifiably engage in violent behaviour expecting to be excused.

In the history of football, there has never been a red card rescinded after a player was involved in violent conduct and it is jarring why Chiyangwa and his team have set such a grossly unconventional precedent.

This decision is to the detriment of football and it is no wonder why the local game struggles to attract meaningful sponsorship.

No self-respecting corporate would want to be associated with such flagrant abuse of the laws of football and they would rather stay away.

The biggest loser in all this is football and the buck stops with Chiyangwa, as the leader of Zifa.

On the other hand, if Dynamos felt aggrieved, they should have approached the Premier Soccer League, who would, if they could not handle the case, pass it forward to Zifa, unlike this situation where procedures are flouted willy-nilly.

The procedures for appeals are laid down in the Premier Soccer League rules and regulations and procedures should be followed at all times.

The swiftness with which the red card was rescinded also raises questions, as even in the English Premier League, where they have the luxury of many camera angles and technology, they are never this quick to reverse decisions or retrospectively punish errant players.

It would not be remiss to equate Chiyangwa and Zifa to swash-buckling cowboys in the Wild West, who have no regard for processes and laws of the game.

For the cynics, this is a clear effort to pave the way for Dynamos to win the championship, as it paves the way for their striker to play against Caps United, a game he would have missed due to the red card.

We would not want to be involved in conspiracy theories and cynicism, but we have to point out that this was as weird as decisions get.

Chiyangwa and Zifa have just pushed Zimbabwean football into an abyss and this decision is likely to have repercussions that will haunt the game for a very long time to come.

  2. If the PSL still exists then it must stand by the referee until a complain is raised. In an event I think that the absence of many red cards means that the referee exercised caution, otherwise the game would have degenerated into chaos.

  3. ndokuti mudhuwa ayite mushe ,why is it ma strikers akawanda anopiwa ma red card coz of him. Tsipa,Rarumbwa,Epoupa etc vakapiwa macards coz of him. As a player you will end up retaliate if the refree fail to protect you.Captain fiasco vari right.
Hindava vanhu vachirwadziwa nekutya kuti ma team avo anorohwa kana Epoupa aripo.

  4. Ntouba is right , this Muduwa guy is a nonsense. Why does he want to provoke other players and think he will always get away with it ? Kana munhu anetsa varume ngarohwe, it is as simple as that because his provocation is just too much to other players , this is the truth and nothing else .

    1. ummmm thats football man. Ramos did it the final ye UEFA. wat you did after watokonywa thats wat matters. anogona anomakwa wena. that refugee akamakwa varume akatoona maone better kuheader munhu uyu

    2. Comment..This is not politics, what Chiyangwa did he should have done it at Zanu Pf not at football level, it shows that he knows nothing about football.

  5. izvi hazvisisiri zvebhora zvave kuitwa ,why can’t we ever do things professionally ku Zifa

  6. guys please change your font

  7. akangotamba paweekend dynamos inopenalizwa for using an illegible player period. usually that means forfeiting the game.

  8. That’s how low we have sunk as a country, decisions being made to please certain individuals and satisfying their big egos at the expense of principle and integrity, hakuna kwatinoenda, still stuck in some dark age while others are moving on. Just look across the border ku Zambia without too much noise they are progressing as a football nation yet isu we have the COSAFA president who is out to prove kuti he can get whatever he wants. Changing football rules to suit your agenda. Shame.

  9. Fidza is actually bringing sanity into football. Psl has been watching Muduwa bulling others in the game with no action. Now fidza has taken it upon himself to act moti atadza zve! Fidza is a man of action. Psl’s appeals requirements are prohibitve $1000 when you can whatsapp the top boss and get a response spoton!

Psl must be proactive rather be reactive! Why are they commenting on Fidza’s conduct and not on their refs conduct! Chakatanga chii?

    1. i agree with you Muduhwa conduct have not been proper but for Phillip to rescind the red card was not the best of decisions and is not supported by any laws of the game. if they felt Muduhwa conduct was not right they should investigate and punish Peter based on evidence of the video replays. Ntouba as a proffessional knows it very well he deserved the marching orders.for the love and good of the game we should be aiming at encouraging mental strength on our players to overcome any dirty tactics by opposition. if phiri slapped Ntouba and was not spotted during the match the same committte can hand him the ban if found guilty and in the end SOCCER wins

    2. In actual fact referees do not belong to PSL bt ZIFA

  10. fidza is a mboko

  11. Philip Chiyangwa you are full of confusion and this is not the first time.Remember Please stop it.We are watching you Epoupa deserved that red card.Peter Muduhwa did not do anything wrong.

  12. remember zinedine zidane….world cup against italy? muduwa what…muduwa this is immaterial

  13. Chiyangwa has missed the plot here. He should have waited for the PSL to take action instead but he jumped the gun and in the process he has lost a lot of credibity. Remember it is not lost on us neutrals that he is an avid DeMbare supporter!!!

  14. Chiyangwa is now showing the nation that he knows nothing about football , this type of decisions are done in politics .Even who ever complained to ZIFA is also wrong , they were suppose to take their issue to PSL.

  15. Iwe Nyuchi yegonera hauna brain,If the case was not within Zifa’s juridiction, why did’t they refer the matter to the relevant body?Don’t blame Dembare on this one.Go to Rotten Row court and report that a burgler and see if they will entertain you. They will refer you to the nearest police station. If they entertain you and attend to your case then should people blame you or they blame the court officials for deliberating on an issu that belongs to Z.R.P

  16. The fast action taken by ZIFA to rescind the referee’s decision of red carding Epoupa was unheard of in the recent history of football. ZIFA should therefore take very fast action to reverse what they did. Pushing, pooling, etc. is the order of the day in the play of football, but head butting is obvious a red carded offence, period.

  17. Muduwa’s contact is not healthy for modern football and he should just do basic things instead of bullying opponents like he did,all the same we as the Dembare family do not condone Dr Chiyangwa’s decision to rescind the referees decision, instead if he feels that the man in the middle eerred then he should sanction that the those in charge of referees take action. As far as we concerned Christian is banned and Lodza with the prefessionalism that i believe he have should include Ntouba in his final 18 squad for those the games he was purported to have been banned. We do not need Chiyangwa’s intervation to win the league gentlemen, lets do it on our own, period.

  18. My question is,What could have happened if Muduwa had head butted Ntouba, or the foul commited on Makaruse was commited on Ntouba,or Highlanders fans had thrwn missiles, or the Highlanders ball boys had disrupted the smooth flow of that game as did the Dynamos ball boys.Your guess is as good as mine. I WILL NOT SPEAK
