Tanaka Chidemo (19) of Rujeko high-density suburb was yesterday sentenced on his own plea of guilty to the theft charge.

In passing sentence, magistrate Ignatius Mugova said a harsh sentence was appropriate as Chidemo had proved unrepentant as he had two other previous convictions for robbery and unlawful entry committed in 2015 and 2016.

The court heard that on August 18 this year, Chidemo stole his sister Chido’s bank card and used it to swipe for beer and groceries, spending $568 in the process.

The complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
