A 20-YEAR-OLD inmate, who sneaked out of St Thomas Prison in Marondera and hid in a cave before his re-arrest, has been slapped with an additional six-month jail term for escaping from lawful custody.

Shorai Antonio bolted out on August 2 while being escorted to the prison’s garden together with 52 other prisoners.
He was serving a two-year term for a yet-to-be-disclosed offence.
Antonio was yesterday sentenced on his own plea of guilty to the second offence, when he appeared before Marondera magistrate, Ignatious Mugova.
The court heard that after he bolted, prison officers tracked him using sniffer dogs, leading to his arrest after he was found hiding in a cave close to the prison complex.
