The LSU has been operating from rented premises in Bulawayo since its first intake in 2005, although some faculties have been moved to Lupane.
These include the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Geography and Population Studies and Department of Languages.
LSU spokesperson, Zwelithini Dhlamini, said a lot of money was still required to complete the construction of facilities such as hostels.
“To complete male hostels, we require $600 000 approximately. We also need teaching space and office space. We are temporarily planning using prefabricated material at $200 000. The Faculty of Commerce will relocate to Jotsholo faculty at $2 million, students hostels $5 million and others,” Dlamini said.
On Friday, Zanu PF youth league leader, Kudzanai Chipanga and First Lady Grace Mugabe lamented underdevelopment and government’s failure to complete construction of government institutions such as LSU.
Chipanga said it was saddening some government institutions were operating in Bulawayo, more than 170km from where they were supposed to be based.
