SUNGURA outfit, Uzumba Express, on Saturday emerged winners of the Chibuku Road to Fame Mashonaland East provincial competitions held at Murewa Council Bar.

The six-member group rode over stiff competition from seven other groups and it was a tough moment for the panel of three judges as all the contesting groups were sungura outfits.
The Peter Muswe-led ensemble was, however, crowned winners during their debut appearance at the competitions.
Uzumba Express walked away $500 richer while second-placed Zebra Kings from Chivhu pocketed $300 and Marondera’s Zaranyika Logistics came third, going home with $200 in prize money.
Muswe said they were excited to win the competition in their maiden appearance ahead of other groups that had participated in the competition before.
“We are excited that we won the provincial final competitions considering that this is our first time to take part in the competitions. We are confident that we will be a force to reckon with at the national finals in Harare,” he said.
Josphat Somanje was the guest artiste and thrilled the gathering with his hit songs including This Time Haulume and Maggie Mukaranga.

Chibuku Road to Fame is a musical identification programme that seeks to give underprivileged groups a chance to record their first albums.
The programme helps promote the development of music groups through identifying groups with potential to produce recordable material and assist the winning groups in documenting their works.
The partnership between the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Corporation has ensured continuity of this programme over the years.
Some of the groups that have become household names from the programme are Club Shanga from Marondera, Romeo Gasa and John Pfumojena.
