SDC chairperson, Gibson Hwacha said the school in the mining town faced many challenges, including dilapidated classrooms as well as accommodation problems.

“We have about 16 teachers yet we only have a single toilet,” he said on the sidelines of a recent feedback meeting.

“We have serious staff housing shortages, with a four-roomed house shared by four teachers. We also have a dilapidated classroom block, which is not safe for our pupils.”

Most of the buildings at the school were constructed more than five decades ago, hence their deplorable state.

Authorities at the school appealed to the corporate world, government and other well-wishers to help them address their problems.

Midlands provincial education director, Agnes Gudo could not be reached for comment.
