William Mwembe (34), of Nsenga village under Chief Sinakoma, broke into Hwange teachers’ houses at night and stole laptops, phones, bank cards and money and kept them at his homestead.

He appeared before Hwange regional magistrate, Portia Mhlanga facing 22 charges of unlawful entry and theft.

Prosecutor, Loveness Maseko said between March 2015 and June this year, Mwembe went on a housebreaking spree targeting teachers’ houses in Hwange, where he stole various electrical gadgets.

He was arrested on June 28 this year and led the police to his homestead, where he kept all the stolen gadgets dating back from 2015.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to 19 counts of unlawful entry and theft.

Mhlanga sentenced him to four years imprisonment and six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

In mitigation, the magistrate said she had considered that all the gadgets had been recovered and that Mwembe was a family man.
