The result means that Ngezi relinquish top spot to army side Black Rhinos, who won their league encounter against Tsholotsho, although the two teams have the same number of points.

The platinum miners came into the match oozing with confidence after an impressive 2-1 win against FC Platinum last week.

Triangle dominated the early action and was rewarded just 10 minutes into the match through rising star Simba Makoni.

He benefited from a blunder by the visitors to put his side into a well-deserved lead.

Triangle, who have been blowing hot and cold this term, defended the lead as they created few chances for the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, the hosts were determined to maintain their lead as they defended in their numbers.

Makoni, the goal scorer, was substituted in the 65th minute for veteran striker Courage Denious, while Triangle gaffer Taurai Mangwiro handed youngster Misheck Ngwenya his first debut match for the Sugar Boys, coming in for Blessing Chimwamuchere.

Ralph Kawondera, majestic in defence, almost added his name on the score-sheet on the 77th minute, but that was not to be.

Triangle fans were to jump off their seats late into the match after pint-sized Lameck Nhamo scored from close range, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Triangle gaffer, Taurai Mangwiro expressed delight with the win.

“I think we are now moving on the right direction. We created a couple of good chances, which we failed to score. But naturally, I am happy with the way we defended and its very unfortunate we had a goal that was disallowed,” he said.

Meanwhile, ZPC Kariba grabbed their first set of three points without their coach Sunday Chidzambwa, who is in South Africa with the triumphant Warriors, with a narrow win over Hwange at the Colliery.

Never Tigere scored the all-important goal in the 52nd minute to ensure the power utility side take all the three points back to Kariba
