Kadoma City Council has established an anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and tuberculosis care centre equipped with state-of-the-art machines worth $30 000.

The clinic was officially opened by Health deputy minister Aldrin Musiiwa last Friday and is expected to cater for more than 12 000 people living with TB and HIV.
The centre is one of the only two TB and HIV care centres in Mashonaland West province.
Speaking at the event, Musiiwa said the new centre would fulfil government’s decision to bring health services closer to communities.
“No one in this day and age should die of Aids when the facilities that provide care are here,” he said.
“I applaud the local authority for undertaking such an initiative.”
International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease country director, Christopher Zishiri said: “In order to fight the TB and HIV scourge, we need to work together.

“We have been funding TB and HIV programmes to the tune of $5 million annually and we hope to receive more funding, which we will share with centres like these.”
Kadoma council health director, Daniel Chirundu said the centre would help them examine TB profiles and viral loads for more than 12 000 people on treatment at the clinic.
Harare, Bulawayo and Chinhoyi had been the only local authorities with TB and HIV care centres.
