“As from January 2017, the disbursements to the team were behind by $305 000. In the meantime, the executive committee was engaged in fundraising activities, particularly targeting companies that did business with council. However, because of the economic situation in the country, this appeared to be a tall order, as most companies are struggling,” BCC minutes read in part. The minutes said Bulawayo City had been paying for the use of council facilities when the club was at the same time receiving a grant from the local authority to fund some of its operations.

Acting director of housing and community services, Mackenzie Moyo, the football club’s chief executive officer, is said to have raised the anomalous scenario last month.

“The acting director of housing and community services reported that Bulawayo City FC currently use Barbourfields for its home matches. However, there was likelihood that in the event that the stadium was not available, it could use either Luveve or White City stadia. Hire charges for Barbourfields stadium were $2 299,77 per match and for Luveve and White City were $692,34 per match,” he said.
