Mgcini Ncube was last Thursday initially sentenced to 12 months before Kezi magistrate Jimmy Ntonga suspended three months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Smart Tafireyi told the court that on August 29 last year, Ncube confronted and struck Vusumuzi Sibanda with a stone accusing him of dating his girlfriend, Loveness Nkosi.

In the ensuing melee, Ncube stabbed Sibanda once on the nose before fleeing.

Sibanda reported the matter to the police, leading to a manhunt for Ncube.

On November 6, police officer Tariro Mandiringa spotted Ncube in Maphisa carrying a knobkerrie. Mandiringa teamed up with other police officers and confronted Ncube and attempted to arrest him.

Ncube ran amok, produced a knife and stabbed Mandiringa on the left hand before running away. Mandiringa was taken to Maphisa District Hospital for treatment before Ncube was arrested.
