Suspended Zanu PF Bulawayo city centre district youth chairperson, Magura Charumbira is in a fresh storm hardly two months after he was arrested for allegedly leading violent clashes at the party’s Davis Hall provincial headquarters.

In the latest incident, which occurred on July 2, Charumbira is alleged to have stormed and disturbed a war veterans’ meeting addressed by George Mlala at the same venue.

On Monday, Charumbira was not asked to plead to the public violence charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Tinashe Tashaya.

He was granted $50 bail and remanded to July 24.

Prosecutor Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on July 2 this year, Charumbira allegedly stormed a war veterans’ meeting and labelled them as sympathisers of Zanu PF’s national commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere.

“What are you doing there you Kasukuwere people? We are moving with (President Robert) Mugabe only. There is nothing that you are doing,” he allegedly shouted.

“You are telling each other lies. Get out of the hall. Forward with (War Veterans minister) Tshinga Dube.”

It is the State’s case that by so doing, Charumbira disrupted the war veterans’ meeting.

He is also alleged to have assaulted Shadreck Sibanda with a chair, accusing him of supporting Kasukuwere.

A report made to police led to Charumbira’s arrest.

On May 21, Charumbira (40) and his alleged accomplices Mabutho Moyo (32) and Davis Muhambi (35) were charged with malicious damage to property after they alleged vandalised windowpanes at the party offices on being denied entry.

Charumbira also has another pending case, where he is accused of assaulting party member Charlton Sivako.
