Founder of the organisation, Rev Obadiah Musindo said DAnet was heeding recent calls by President Robert Mugabe to build flats to save land which is fast running out.

He told NewsDay yesterday that a team of engineers and architects was now on the ground around various cities and towns across the country working on the modalities of how to build modern flats.

“We realised that we need to build flats that can accommodate more people and by so doing we will be saving space. We have land in some cities but we are hoping to acquire more land and my management team is looking for more land to buy and we are targeting cities” Musindo said.

Government and local authorities are struggling to clear the housing backlog. Some residents have been on the waiting the list since Independence in 1980’s with many citizens dying before owning their houses.

Musindo has been a recipient of massive criticism for politicising his housing schemes.

“As an organisation we have heeded the call by President Robert Mugabe to also focus on building apartments and that is what we are doing. This is something we are working around the clock to be successful,’’ he said.

The cleric recently courted controversy after he said all his housing beneficiaries should hang Mugabe’s portraits in their homes to show loyalty and allegiance to the President.
