SOCIAL activist and cleric Evan Mawarire will today join businessman and social justice activist Shingi Munyeza as well as other pro-democracy campaigners in a discussion on “what is to be done” in preparations for next year’s make-or-break harmonised polls.

The discussion, to be held at the Theatre in the Park, will also feature Vimbai Musvaburi and Maureen Kademaunga of #SheVotes.
“Nothing will be given to us on a silver platter unless we citizens decide what we want. Join us for #ToitaSei/SenzeNjani/WhatNext. The powerful journey of HOPE begins,” Mawarire said in a short message accompanying a poster for the event early this week.
An advertisement for the event doing the rounds on social media reads: “It’s starting again, Zimbabwean citizens are coming together to decide their destiny. When we unite we do amazing things. We have Ithemba/Hope/Tariro. Let us make something powerful happen”.
Munyeza has of late become more outspoken against President Robert Mugabe’s government’s excesses while Mawarire, leader of the popular #ThisFlag campaign that rocked the country last year, was this week arrested for the umpteenth time after he addressed medical students demonstrating against fee increases at the University of Zimbabwe.
Mawarire is facing trial on a charge of subversion following his arrest in February this year on his return from a six-month self-imposed exile. He was arrested last year in the mayhem following countrywide demonstrations against the introduction of a surrogate currency known as bond notes and a ban on certain imports in the country before his dramatic release by a magistrate.
The #ThisFlag frontman has indicated he will be approaching the Constitutional Court to challenge charges that he sought to topple a constitutionally elected government by calling on citizens to protest against Mugabe.
