GOVERNMENT has extended a begging bowl to the donor community to raise about $11 million urgently required to feed over 6 000 Mozambican refugees, who fled political tension in their country and sought refuge in Chipinge and Nyanga districts.

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in a speech read on his behalf at a Zimbabwe inter-agency refugee appeal meeting in Harare yesterday, said the huge influx of Mozambican refugees had strained the country’s lean budget.
“Our emergency response to the Mozambican crisis has put a strain on our already stretched resources. It is against this background that I call upon you all to donate in cash or kind to make Tongogara Refugee Camp a habitable place with full capacity to contain a mass population increase in refugees and asylum seekers,” he said.
Tongogara Refugee Camp currently holds more than 10 000 refugees from several countries.
