A 22-YEAR-OLD Marondera man has been slapped with a two-and-a-half-year effective jail term for stealing his father’s car and selling it.

Blessing Chimbizi, who stole his father Shephered Manjengwa’s car on September 14 last year, is also facing another theft charge after he sped off from a service station without paying for fuel using the same car.
In the car theft case, Manjengwa went to Marondera Provincial Hospital in the company of his son, who was driving the vehicle.
Upon reaching the hospital, Manjengwa instructed his son to proceed to Marondera town to refuel the car and return to fetch him.
After realising that his son had taken too long to return, Manjengwa called him without success before he made a police report.
On May 24 this year, police received leads that Chimbizi was in Chiweshe, leading to his arrest.
After being quizzed by detectives, Chimbizi then led police officers to Mutare, where he had sold the car to one Tendai Simango.

The vehicle was recovered with its three wheels, car battery, car radio and computer box missing before it was towed to Dangamvura Police Station.
An agreement of sale was produced in court as evidence. The value of the vehicle is $3 000.
On the fuel theft count, Chimbizi approached Total Service Station along Longlands Road in Marondera, where he asked the fuel attendant Biggie Tuna to refuel the car with $88 worth of fuel.
Chimbizi then sped from the service station without paying for the fuel.
