THE National Oil Infrastructure Company (NOIC) has donated $350 000 to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to buy consumables for heart surgeries.

Speaking at the launch of a fund to support heart surgeries at Parirenyatwa Hospital, NOIC chairman Jimias Madzingira said while equipment to conduct the procedures and qualified doctors were available in the country, the only challenge was the consumables required.
“We have committed an amount of US$350 000 towards the programme and we are confident that it will make a positive difference,” he said.
The company last year sponsored seven children to go to India for heart surgeries.
Health and Child Care minister David Parirenyatwa said government could not fully fund the health sector due to financial challenges.
“We have over 800 patients in this hospital currently. We have got the capacity, but we need to build more hospitals and modernise our hospitals which are now somewhat outdated. We have a vision of building another district hospital in Harare at Budiriro,” Parirenyatwa said.
Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals official David Chimuka said: “We are still looking for funds to purchase a heart/lung machine which will cost $300-400 000 and catheterisation laboratory equipment which costs $1,5 million.”
