Lakela Sweswe (23), who has not been asked to plead to murder charges, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Tinashe Tashaya on Wednesday and was further remanded to April 19 for routine remand, pending her indictment at the High Court.

The court was told that on June 8 last year, Sweswe’s husband, the late Anifa Mlauzi, arrived home late from a beer drink and found her sleeping.

A heated argument ensued with Mlauzi accusing Sweswe of having extra-marital affairs.

The dispute degenerated into a fistfight and Sweswe allegedly picked a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband once on the neck, killing him on the spot.

Sweswe allegedly dragged his body into an asbestos-built shack and left it there.

After two days, she allegedly covered it with a blanket and poured paraffin on it before burning the corpse beyond recognition. She was later arrested after police were tipped off about the alleged murder.

Following her arrest, Sweswe allegedly admitted to the murder and led police officers to the scene of the incident, leading to the recovery of the charred corpse.
