Police sources said the incident occurred on March 22 and identified the victim as Timothy Mararuse of Gwai Farm. They added that before he committed suicide, Mataruse had accused his wife of infidelity.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza were fruitless.

NewsDay was reliably informed that on the fateful night, Mataruse was awakened by a heavy knock on his bedroom door, but found nobody when he opened it.

It is alleged that he returned to bed and started accusing his wife of having an extramarital affair with the person who had knocked at the door. A brawl ensued over the issue and later degenerated into a fist-fight.

Mataruse then stormed out of the bedroom, before his body was found hanging from the kitchen roof the following morning.

Police from Marondera attended the scene, but ruled out foul play.
