Breaking: Bulawayo horror crash kills 16

SIXTEEN people perished, 13 of then instantly when a haulage truck crashed into a commuter omnibus carrying mourners to Masvingo along the Bulawayo –Gwanda road last night.

BY SHARON SIBINDI

Bulawayo Fire Brigade Chief Fire officer Richard Peterson confirmed the accident which happened late on Wednesday at around 11:00 pm.

Five people survived the crash with three seriously injured taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for treatment. The truck driver survived the accident.

“The driver is saying the truck reportedly hit a pothole and lost control before its load fell on the Kombi,” Peterson said.

It is believed that after the truck hit a pothole its front wheel locked thereby forcing it to lose control and land on the commuter omnibus.

    1. Whilst they are busy conducting feasibility studies every morning along Harare-Chitungwiza Road, presumably with a view to set up an urban toll gate.

    2. Whilst they are busy conducting ‘feasibility’ studies along
the hre-chitown road, presumably to erect an urban tollgate.

  2. Hey. All this being caused by the poor state of our roads.

  3. only concerned

iam very sorry for the sad loss of life due to road accidents may the LORD OUR GOD comfort the families that have been hit by such a sudden loss of relatives.

  4. innocent paradzayi

This is sad . May there souls rest in peace.

Surely someone buying a ring for usd 1.3 million. This money could have been used to repair the potholes and lives could have saved.

  5. Then traffic porisi worries about reflector vests, spare wheels, and a whole two fire extinguishers etc as if lack of any of these have caused loss of life, at least not in recent memory, nxaaaa this hurumendi sooo, fix the roads

  6. zinara death traps !. Gushungo’s game plan, ‘Why fix the roads? make more ‘roadblocks’ and siphone money from motorists, they will pack their cars, get all cars off the roads. they will start walking from Byo to Hre. If my great, great, grandfather did it, why not them. Even my father walked from Zvimba to Tsholotsho and unfortunately he couldn’t make it back. These people’s movements have to be restricted in order not to mobilise themselves. I will be visiting them myself in their constituances in an army helicopter with my wife, carrying a few bags of donated yellow maize. (PROBLEM SOLVED)’.

my condolences to the families who lost lives in this horific aciident caused mainly by lack of maintanance by the ministry of roads albeit Zinara. we have said it time and again that this parastatal was created to siphon money into the coffers of cheffs without anything going towards roads. this accident occured along a national main road which is supposed to be mantained by Zinara.

this parastatal collects in excess of 200 million per year and gives out 899 000 to Byo in 2017 and about 1,4milliom to harare. does this really make sense/? where does the rest of the money goes to? there are 32 cities/towns in the country and all these got less than 10 million, leaving 190million in the hands of the Zinara. what is the justification for with holding 190miilion? could this have gone to the rural councils?

Zinara is short changing us as motorists and the public. it has to be made accountable. Parliament must demand that its accounts be audited and disbursements made public. who is benefiting from these funds if its not the chefs

in 2010 before zinara was forced on local authorities Byo used to collect 310 000 (2010 May figures)

per quater meaning baout 1,4miilion per annum. By then how many cars were there and 7 years latter how many cars are there now. multiply that by just three you will find Byo could be getting close to 5million per year but its being given 900 000 meaning its being shortchanged by 4million

Zinara was just deliberately created to take away vehicle licence funds from councils which are being run by the opposition to decapacitate them so that it appears that the councils are failing to mantain roads therefore lose popularity. the same with zinwa

  9. MTSRIP.with the current state of the roads after the heavy rains,it is very dangerous to travel during the night.Better it be during the day at least we can see the big potholes on time.

    1. Predator, I might not be getting you clearly, are you trying to justify the availability of the potholes or you are just giving us a travel advice?
